British man tried to kill Donald Trump at Las Vegas rally

Donald Trump speaks at a rally in Las Vegas on Saturday and is interrupted by a disturbance that police say involved a British man attempting to grab a security officer’s gun, with the intention of firing at the presumptive Republican nominee. Michael Steven Sandford was arrested at the event.

Michael Steven Sandford, 20, did not enter a plea when he appeared before a judge in Nevada and was remanded in custody until a hearing on 5 July.

He is charged with an act of violence “on restricted grounds”.

He had reportedly tried to seize the gun after saying he was seeking Mr Trump’s autograph at Saturday’s rally.

He said he had been planning to try and shoot Mr Trump for about a year but had decided to act now because he finally felt confident enough to do so, court papers say.

Man rapes, impregnates 15-year-old daughter in Lagos,mother arrested for aborting it...

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man, Ike Iwuanyanwu, for allegedly raping and impregnating his 15-year-old daughter, Priscilla (pseudonym) at Ajao Estate, in the Isolo area of the state.
He was arrested on Wednesday after the matter was reported at the Ajao Estate Police Division.
It was learnt that the victim had been taken into custody by the Lagos State Government.
According to PUNCH Metro ,Iwuanyanwu had also allegedly beaten his daughter and wife, warning them not to disclose the incident to anyone.
It was learnt that Priscilla’s mother, however, informed her family members on Wednesday, who went to the girl’s school to confirm the story from her.

The case was thereafter reported to the state Ministry of Youth and Social Development, which informed the police.
A neighbour of the Iwuanyanwus, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victim was the first child of the family, adding that the father had allegedly confessed to the crime.
She said, “The man is a driver and the girl is his first child. None of us knew anything about the incident until he was arrested. The only thing we saw was that the man beat up his wife and daughter late in the night on Tuesday.
“The girl was pregnant and the father tried to hide it. It was her school that informed the Lagos State Government.
“The girl confessed that it was her father who raped and impregnated her. The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development alerted the police and the man was arrested.
“The suspect did not deny that he impregnated the girl. He knew the government was involved and he had no hiding place. We learnt he told the police that his wife did not allow him to have sex with her and he yielded to the temptation of raping his daughter.
“The girl’s mother told her family members, who then went to her school. They did not know the school authorities would get the ministry involved. The matter was also reported to some child rights workers in the Oshodi area.”
Our correspondent learnt that Priscilla’s mother allegedly took the 15-year-old to a place where the pregnancy was aborted.
The pregnancy was said to have been aborted before she was rescued and taken into custody by government officials.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the police arrested Priscilla’s mother on Thursday for involvement in the alleged abortion.

The Coordinator, Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, Lagos State, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the victim was safe in government’s custody.
She said, “Social workers have rescued the victim. She is now at an orphanage provided by the state government. We have also called for the duplicate case file. The girl’s mother was arrested for allegedly aborting the pregnancy. The police may grant her bail on the grounds that she has a four-year-old boy.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation was ongoing.
She said, “The man raped and impregnated his daughter, while the mother also procured abortion for her. The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, has ordered that the case be transferred to the gender unit of the command for investigation. The girl is placed in a shelter because we cannot afford to see her go back to that vicinity.”

How A Church Tortured Two Children For Being Witches

Two children accused of being witches have been rescued by Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, a Calabar-based child’s rights organisation.

The rights group had come to Ikot-Abasi-Effiom community in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State to screen a movie when they were notified about the boys.

According to Punch Newspapers, the children (ten and seven years old) were about to be lynched by members of a church when the group rescued them.

According to a source in the community, Sunday Nta, the children were condemned as witches after a female family member accused them of attacking her in the dream and snatching her unborn child.

                            

The children were ostracized from the community but were later taken by a church, led by a prophet, to the bush for torture.

An uncle of the two boys thereafter made contacts on how to rescue the children.

“The kids were stigmatised as soon as they were branded as witches. But the situation took a new dimension on Friday when the children were taken to the forest and tied to a tree.”

“They were battered and assaulted by some members of the family, leaving them with cuts and bruises all over their bodies.”

“Respite came the way of the children when an uncle, who arrived from town, demanded the release of the children with threats of calling the police and on learning of BRCI’s visit, took the children to the venue where, coincidentally, a movie was being screened.”

Secretary of the rights group said that the tortured children have been taken to a health center for treatment.

“The rescued children have been taken to the Community Health Centre and we have paid the bills for them to be given proper medical attention.”

“We also ensured that the uncle who rescued them temporarily keep the children in his custody.”

Poverty Forced Me Into Selling Bread – Rashidi Yekini’s Mother Speaks On How NFF Abandoned Her

In a recent interview published by Punch, the 80-year-old Alhaja Sikiratu Yekini, mother of late Super Eagles striker, Rashidi Yekini, has finally opened up on her financial status and what has been happening since the death of her son.

When asked how life has been treating her since the death of her son, Yekini’s mother revealed some interesting and shocking details many will find very surprising.

She said:-

“I have been managing. It has not been easy at all. Since he died, I have not had substantial support. I have been surviving on the rent I collect from the house Rashidi built for me as well as the proceeds from my petty trade. As you can see here, I sell bread, biscuits and some other household cooking materials. I use the rent to do some little repairs on the house and also to find at least a meal a day or more depending on what the day brings.”

Asked about the houses which he collects rent and the allegation by Yekini’s lawyer that she collects about N500,000 from rent yearly, she said:

“We have five flats in this house. I use one flat, my surviving son, Akeem, and his family use one flat while I rented out the remaining three flats. This is almost a remote area. It is not like Abuja, Lagos or even Ilorin where you can collect substantial amount for rent. The tenants were paying N30,000 per annum but I just increased it to N45,000 per annum this year. That means that prior to this year, I was collecting only N90,000 per annum from the three flats.

                                     
“The lawyer is not being truthful. He is maligning me, and stopping people from assisting me through his statements. Since my son died, if people have given money to the lawyer for me, he has not given me. It is only now, due to media publicity, that people started helping me.”

Speaking about how she has been helped so far by well meaning Nigerians, she revealed that some well meaning Nigerians have come to her aid since news broke about her poor living condition.

She said:- “During Rashidi’s one year memorial anniversary, Osun and Oyo states’ governments gave money to his wives and children. Osun State gave his wives N2m and Oyo gave N2m as well. The Kwara State Government made a promise but it has not been fulfilled. Some people recently started helping me. There is a group from Abuja that opened a bank account for me. Some money has been paid in for me. Also, Yinka Ayefele recently sent a delegation to me.

“He read about my ordeal in the papers and he was touched and sent people to ask me what my needs were. I told them. Also, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike was touched after learning of my story. He came here and gave me N100,000. Some weeks ago, the wife of the Kwara State Governor, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed, sent a delegation and they gave me clothes, food, beverages and some cash. I am grateful to them. May God reward them but I still need more.”

However, she revealed that the Nigerian Football Federation totally abandoned her and her family. She disclosed that she has not received a kobo from them. In her words: “They [NFF] have not done anything. If government or people have been giving Yekini’s lawyer (Jibril Olanrewaju) in Ibadan, things to give me, he has not been sending them to me. I am not aware that NFF has given any money to the family since my son died.”

The woman revealed that it was poverty that pushed her into selling bread and biscuit.

3 People Shot As Students, Police Clash in Ondo State

No fewer than three students of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo (RUGIPO) in Ondo State have been reportedly shot during a clash between the students and men of the police command in the town. LEADERSHIP reports.

It was learnt that scores of residents of the ancient town were wounded, while about ten vehicles were vandalised during the clash.

Investigation revealed that the crisis broke out when a private car of a police officer allegedly hit two students in the town and the victims were abandoned by the said policeman.

                       

A source who do not want his name in the print disclosed to our correspondent that the situation forced the students to embark on a protest to the Police Station B division at Otapete in the town.

According to him, the students were dispersed by the Police, who torn gas and shot sporadically into the air while some students were accidentally hit by bullets.

He further disclosed that the police action angered the students, who allegedly destroyed vehicles parked inside the station and later blocked the Owo/Akure expressway which is opposite their school thereby causing a gridlock.

14-Year-Old Girl Attempts Suicide As Mother Rejects 34-Year-Old Okada Man Boyfriend

A 14-year-old girl in Ghana identified as Adjoa, is presently fighting for her life in a hospital at the at Nweneso Number One in the Ashanti Region of the country, after she reportedly drank some poisonous substance » after her mother refused to accept her 34-year-old ‘Okadaman’ (Commercial motorcyclist) boyfriend, Daily Graphics reports.

The girl’s mother, identified as Maame Ampomaa , could not come to terms with why her teenage daughter would be a love relationship » with a man old enough to be her father and narrated how the whole incident played out:

“About a week ago, I noticed that she had gotten herself a boyfriend. I am a widow and a single mother who toils to take care of her, so, I told her that she would stop schooling and stay home if she continued the relationship.

I woke up this morning and could not find her. I went to her room only to find her almost dying after consuming a poisonous substance.

I rushed her to a nearby hospital and I am praying that she gets well soon. I was only looking out for her own good so that with all the monies spent on her education, she does not get pregnant.

She may end up not getting a good man to marry, that is why I also asked her to stay away from this relationship,” the distraught mother said.

Egyptian court sentences former President Morsi to life in prison and 2 Aljazeera journalists, female reporter, to death

An Egyptian court on Saturday, June 19,  sentenced former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi to life in prison for leading the Muslim Brotherhood and 15 years for stealing secret Egyptian state security documents.

The court acquitted Morsi of charges of having supplied Qatar with classified documents but sentenced him to life for leading an unlawful organisation, his lawyer Abdel Moneim Abdel Maksoud told AFP.

The ousted president was also convicted of having “stolen secret documents concerning state security” and handed another 15-year jail term, the lawyer added.

Qatar was a main backer of Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood movement while he was in power between 2012 and July 2013, when the military overthrew and detained him.

Morsi has been sentenced to death in a separate trial for his alleged role in prison breaks and attacks on police stations during the 2011 uprising that overthrew veteran strongman Hosni Mubarak.

                     

He has also received a life sentence and a 20-year jail term in two other trials.

On Saturday the court confirmed death sentences against six defendants, including three journalists tried in absentia who allegedly helped relay secret documents to Qatar.

The journalists, Ibrahim Mohamed Hilal and Jordanian citizen Alaa Omar Mohamed Sablan, both of Qatar-based Al-Jazeera channels. The third, Asmaa Mohamed al-Khatib, a female reporter with pro-Muslim Brotherhood news outlet Rassd.

The three others sentenced to death, who were present at the trial, were documentary producer Ahmed Abho, EgyptAir cabin crew member Mohammed Kilani and Ahmed Thabet, a university teaching assistant.

All three convicted can appeal to the court of cassation. Those who were tried in absentia can seek a retrial if they appear in person.

Zonnique Pullins, daughter of Tiny Harris, was arrested and charged for carrying a weapon or long gun through security at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta.

A source tells CBS46 News Investigative Reporter Karyn Greer exclusively that Pullins, 20, was transported to Clayton County Jail for trying to carry a gun through airport security. Records indicate Pullins was charged around 10 p.m. Thursday and released later at 2:09 a.m. on Friday.

Autopsy reveals 2-yr old boy dragged into Lagoon by Alligator died from ‘Drowning and Traumatic’ Injuries

The Autopsy report of the two-year-old boy who was dragged into a Lagoon by an alligator near a Disney resort in Orlando on Tuesday night has been released. Lane Graves, the son of Matthew and Melissa Graves, was on vacation with his parents in Orlando before the sad incident occurred.
                        

Lane had been playing in the man made lagoon which wasn’t very deep around 9:20pmwhen the alligator attacked and dragged him underwater. His father tried frantically and wrestled with the alligator to save him, but could not pry the toddler from the alligator’s jaw.

During the search for his body, wildlife officials caught six alligators in the lake and killed them all. 16 hours later, the boy’s body was found intact in the lake. His Autopsy report revealed that he died from “drowning and traumatic injuries.” His parents have now issued a statement, saying,

“Words cannot describe the shock and grief our family is experiencing over the loss of our son. We are devastated and ask for privacy during this extremely difficult time. To all of the local authorities and staff who worked tirelessly these past 24 hours, we express our deepest gratitude.”

House of Reps probes 3 members over sex scandal

Nigeria’s House of Representatives is set to probe three members alleged to have committed sexual misconduct in the United States.

A report today said the allegedly randy members will appear before the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges to state their case.

The accused lawmakers are the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Mr. Mark Gbillah ( APC, Benue); Mr. Samuel Ikon (PDP, Akwa Ibom); and Mr. Mohammed Garba-Gololo (APC, Bauchi).

According to the report, the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, had placed the Committee on Ethics and Privileges on notice.

The committee is chaired by a member of the Peoples Democratic Party from Delta State, Mr. Nicholas Osai.

Under the rules of the House, the committee is empowered to recommend punishment for misconduct as it “deems appropriate” after investigation.

Penalties range from suspension from House services for weeks or up to six months, which the Speaker may also extend as it suits him.

Garba-Gololo, Gbillah and Ikon were in the US recently to participate in the International Visitor Leadership Programme on Good Governance organised by the US Government.

The three legislators were on a team of 10 members nominated to attend the leadership programme, which took place in Cleveland, Ohio, between April 7 and 13 this year.

While there, they allegedly solicited the services of prostitutes through car park attendants while one of them assaulted a hotel housekeeper with the intent to rape.

The allegation was contained in a letter the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle, wrote to Dogara.

Entwistle, in his June 9 letter to Dogara, stated, “It is with regret that I must bring to your attention the following situation.

“Ten members of the Nigerian National Assembly recently travelled to Cleveland, Ohio, as participants in the International Visitor Leadership Programme on good governance. We received troubling allegations regarding the behaviour of three members of the delegation to the U.S. Government’s flagship professional exchange programme.

“The U.S. Department of State and the Cleveland Council on World Affairs received reports from employees of the Cleveland hotel where the representatives stayed, alleging the representatives engaged in the following behaviour:

“Mohammed Garba Gololo allegedly grabbed a housekeeper in his hotel room and solicited her for sex. While the housekeeper reported this to her management, this incident could have involved local law enforcement and resulted in legal consequences for Representative Gololo.

“Mark Terseer Gbillah and Samuel Ikon allegedly requested hotel parking attendants to assist them to solicit prostitutes.”

The members have since denied the allegation and have threatened legal actions to clear their names.

On Thursday, the leadership of the House gave the nod to investigate the allegation.

The US, on its part, quickly revoked the visas of the three members, indicating that they are temporarily barred from visiting that country.

Obanikoro slams N100m suit on EFCC over rights violations, seizure of properties

Former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro yesterday slammed a N100 million suit on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before the Federal High Court in Lagos over an alleged breached of his fundamental human rights.

The former Minister is demanding the sum as general damages for the alleged unlawful and unconstitutional seizure and detention of several items, properties and personal effects belonging to him and family by the EFCC on June 24, 2016.

Other applicants in the suit are: Mrs. Fati Obanikoro, Alhaja Moroophat Obanikoro, Gbolahon Obanikoro, Babajide Obanikoro.

Obanikoro in the fundamental rights enforcement suit, filed on his behalf by his lawyer, Chief Ogwu Onoja (SAN), is also praying the court to restrain the EFCC whether by its officers, Servants, privies, assigns or agents from arresting, detaining, harassing any of the applicants or any of their relatives pending the hearing and determination of the suit.

                      The applicants also want the court to restrain the commission from further entering their premises and an order Directing it to tender an unreserved public apology to them for the unlawful action.

They are also asking the court to direct the respondent to release all the items, properties and personal effects seized from their premises.

The applicants further want the court to hold that the action of the EFCC constitute a gross violation of their fundamental rights as guarantee under section 43 of the 1999 Constitution and Article 14 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

In a 15 paragraphs affidavit attached to the suit and sworn to by Mrs. Fati Obanikoro, states that on June 14 some officials of the EFCC numbering about 20 stormed their premises situated at 10 Mojisola Onikoyi Street, by Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos and took away several items.

She also alleged that the respondent thereafter proceeded to also search the personal house of the former Minister at 4 Layi Ajayi-Bembe road, Parkview,  Ikoyi, Lagos

She also claimed that before the alleged invasion of the premises there was no prior notice by way of letter or invitation served on any of the applicants and there was also no order of court mandating them to carry out the action.

She list some of the items seized by the Commission to include: building plans, cheque leaflets, company documents, car keys, phones, two company seals and six company stam

The applicant further averred that the EFCC officials claimed that they are investigating the former Minister and two of his children but some of the properties taken away do not belong to them.

She also insisted that unless the court issued an order compelling the commission, it will not return the seized properties.

No date has been set for the hearing of the suit.
